Dussehra is also called Vijayadashami, It is a major Hindu festival celebrated at the end of Navaratri every year. It is observed on the tenth day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin, Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore and protect dharma.It marks the end of Ramlila and remembers god Rama's victory over Ravana.On this day people perform shastra puja and start a new work. It is believed that the work that is started on this day wins. Whether Dussehra or Vijayadashmi is celebrated as the victory of Lord Ram or durga puja, in both forms it is the festival of shakti-puja, the date of shastra puja. It is a festival of joy and victory.
Dussehra is celebrated so that heroism is manifested in the blood of the individual and the society. The festival of Dussehra provides inspiration for the abandonment of ten types of sins - work, anger, greed, attachment, jealousy, ego, laziness, violence and theft. The festival of Dussehra is a festival that coordinates power and power. On the nine days of Navratri, a powerful man by worshipping Jagadamba is ready to conquer. From this point of view, the festival of departure is also necessary for Dussehra, that is, victory.

दशहरा को विजयादशमी भी कहा जाता है, यह हर साल नवरात्रि के अंत में मनाया जाने वाला एक प्रमुख हिंदू त्योहार है। यह अश्वत्थामा के हिंदू कैलेंडर महीने में दसवें दिन मनाया जाता है, भगवान राम ने इसी दिन रावण का वध किया था तथा देवी दुर्गा ने नौ रात्रि एवं दस दिन के युद्ध के उपरान्त महिषासुर पर विजय प्राप्त की थी। इसे असत्य पर सत्य की विजय के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इसीलिये इस दशमी को 'विजयादशमी' के नाम से जाना जाता है| इस दिन लोग शस्त्र-पूजा करते हैं और नया कार्य प्रारम्भ करते हैं | ऐसा विश्वास है कि इस दिन जो कार्य आरम्भ किया जाता है उसमें विजय मिलती है। दशहरा अथवा विजयदशमी भगवान राम की विजय के रूप में मनाया जाए अथवा दुर्गा पूजा के रूप में, दोनों ही रूपों में यह शक्ति-पूजा का पर्व है, शस्त्र पूजन की तिथि है। हर्ष और उल्लास तथा विजय का पर्व है।
व्यक्ति और समाज के रक्त में वीरता प्रकट हो इसलिए दशहरे का उत्सव रखा गया है। दशहरा का पर्व दस प्रकार के पापों- काम, क्रोध, लोभ, मोह मद, मत्सर, अहंकार, आलस्य, हिंसा और चोरी के परित्याग की सद्प्रेरणा प्रदान करता है।दशहरे का उत्सव शक्ति और शक्ति का समन्वय बताने वाला उत्सव है। नवरात्रि के नौ दिन जगदम्बा की उपासना करके शक्तिशाली बना हुआ मनुष्य विजय प्राप्ति के लिए तत्पर रहता है। इस दृष्टि से दशहरे अर्थात विजय के लिए प्रस्थान का उत्सव आवश्यक भी है।
रामो विग्रहवान्धर्मः साधुः सत्यपराक्रमः।

English Translation
The fruit of dharma does not accrue to one who has reached the culmination of adharma. Righteousness will destroy the fruits of Unrighteousness.
Hindi Translation
धर्म का निष्कर्ष नहीं है जिसमें अधर्म का फल हो वही फल मांगा जाता है और धर्म अधर्म का नाश करता है।

विक्लवो वीर्यहीनो यः स दैवमनुवर्तते।
वीराः संभावितात्मानो न दैवं पर्युपासते॥
English Translation
Only the timid and the weak leave things to destiny (Daivam) but the strong and the self-confident never rely on destiny or luck (Bhagya).
Hindi Translation
जो कायर और संकोची है, वही भाग्य में मानते हैं।वीर एवं आत्मविश्वासी लोग भाग्य के भरोसे नहीं रहते।
