Maha Shivratri : Experience the Divine Union of Shiv Shakti

Maha shivratri is the main festival of Lord Shiva. Maha shivratri festival is celebrated on Falgun Krishna Chaturdashi. Shivratri is the great festival of union of Shiva and Shakti. It is believed that at the beginning of the creation, Lord Shankar had descended from Brahma in the form of Rudra at midnight on this day. On this day Lord Shiva was married to Goddess Parvati. Maha shivratri is considered to be the most important of the 12 Shivaratris that take place in a year. It is mentioned in the Shiv Purana that the 'Linga', the symbol of the formless form of Shiva, appeared in the midnight of this holy date and was first worshiped by Brahma and Vishnu. That is why this date became famous as 'Shivratri'.The holy festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world including India.
According to Shiva Purana, six items must be included in Mahashivratri Puja:
• Abhishek of Shivling with water, milk and honey. plum or bel leaves that represent purification of the soul.
• The paste of vermilion is applied to the Shiva Linga after bathing. It represents virtue.
• Fruits, which signify longevity and satisfaction of desires.
• burning incense, wealth, yield (grains).
• The lamp which is conducive to the attainment of knowledge.
• and betel leaves which signify contentment with worldly pleasures.

महाशिवरात्रि , यह भगवान शिव का प्रमुख पर्व है। फाल्गुन कृष्ण चतुर्दशी को महाशिवरात्रि पर्व मनाया जाता है।शिवरात्रि शिव और शक्ति के मिलन का महापर्व है। माना जाता है कि सृष्टि के प्रारंभ में इसी दिन मध्यरात्रि भगवान शंकर का ब्रह्मा से रुद्र के रूप में अवतरण हुआ था।इसी दिन भगवान शिव का विवाह देवी पार्वती के साथ हुआ था। साल में होने वाली 12 शिवरात्रियों में से महाशिवरात्रि को सबसे महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है|
शिवपुराण में वर्णित है कि शिवजी के निराकार स्वरूप का प्रतीक ‘लिंग’ इसी पावन तिथि की महानिशा में प्रकट होकर सर्वप्रथम ब्रह्मा और विष्णु के द्वारा पूजित हुआ था| इसी कारण यह तिथि ‘शिवरात्रि’ के नाम से विख्यात हो गई |भारत सहित पूरी दुनिया में महाशिवरात्रि का पावन पर्व बहुत ही उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाता है|
शिव पुराण के अनुसार, महाशिवरात्रि पूजा में छह वस्तुओं को अवश्य शामिल करना चाहिए:
• शिवलिंग का पानी, दूध और शहद के साथ अभिषेक। बेर या बेल के पत्ते जो आत्मा की शुद्धि का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं;
• सिंदूर का पेस्ट स्नान के बाद शिव लिंग को लगाया जाता है। यह पुण्य का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है;
• फल, जो दीर्घायु और इच्छाओं की सन्तुष्टि को दर्शाते हैं;
• जलती धूप, धन, उपज (अनाज);
• दीपक जो ज्ञान की प्राप्ति के लिए अनुकूल है;
• और पान के पत्ते जो सांसारिक सुखों के साथ सन्तोष अंकन करते हैं।
शिवशक्त्यैक्यमयी महानिशा ।
महाशिवरात्रिः सनातनधर्मस्य ॥
English Translation
Maha Shivratri is the sacred great night of Sanatana Dharma, the night that embodies the divine union of Shiva and Shakti.

शिव और शक्ति के ऐक्य से पूर्ण यह महान रात्रि
सनातन धर्म की परम पावन महाशिवरात्रि है।

शिवाय गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय।
श्रीनीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय तस्मै शिकाराय नम: शिवाय।।
English Translation
My salutations to Shiva who is the form of self-welfare, who is the sun to grow the lotus faces of Parvati, who is the one who ends the Yagya of Daksha Prajapati, whose throat is blue, who is the flag of religion.
Hindi Translation
शिव जो स्वयं कल्याण का रूप है, पार्वती के मुख कमलों को विकसित करने के लिए सूर्य है, दक्ष प्रजापति के यज्ञ को समाप्त करने वाले हैं, नीला जिसका कंठ है, जो धर्म की पताका है ऐसे शिव को मेरा प्रणाम।

कावेरिकानर्मदयो: पवित्रे समागमे सज्जनतारणाय।
सदैव मान्धातृपुरे वसन्तमोंकारमीशं शिवमेकमीडे् ॥
English Translation
I praise Lord Shiva, who always resides in the city of Mandhata, situated at the holy confluence of Kaveri and Narmada, to bring the gentlemen of Lord Shankar across from this ocean of the world, the same unique Shri Shiva famous by the name 'Omkareshwar'.
Hindi Translation
जो भगवान् शंकर सज्जनों को इस संसार सागर से पार उतारने के लिए कावेरी और नर्मदा के पवित्र संगम में स्थित मान्धता नगरी में सदा निवास करते हैं, उन्हीं अद्वितीय ‘ओंकारेश्वर’ नाम से प्रसिद्ध श्री शिव की मैं स्तुति करता हूँ ।
