Krishna Janmashtami, also known simply as Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Vishnu. It is celebrated in Shravan or Bhadrapada on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) according to the Hindu lunar calendar.
It is an important festival, especially in the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism. According to the Bhagavata Purana (such as Raas Leela or Krishna Leela), the dance-drama tradition of Krishna's life, devotional singing at midnight at the time of Krishna's birth, fasting, night awakening, and a festival the next day are a part of Janmashtami celebrations.
Krishna was born in a realm of chaos. Lord Krishna took birth in a cellular jail in Dwapar Yug biologically to Vasudeva and Devaki. But Vasudeva had to cross the Yamuna River in a stormy night to pass on his child to a friend so save the child from the evil hands of Kansa. So, technically, Maiya Yashodha and Nanda of Gokul region of Mathura were the foster parents of Lord Krishna.
Janmashtami is celebrated by the people by observing fast, singing devotional songs of love of Krishna and doing Jagran in the night. After Krishna's midnight birth, the infant Krishna idols are washed and clothed, then placed in a cradle. After this the devotees break their fast by distributing food and sweets.

कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी, जिसे केवल जन्माष्टमी या गोकुलाष्टमी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, एक वार्षिक हिंदू त्योहार है जो विष्णुजी के आठवें अवतार श्रीकृष्ण के जन्म का महोत्सव मनाता है। यह हिंदू चंद्र कैलेंडर के अनुसार, कृष्ण पक्ष (अंधेरे पखवाड़े) के आठवें दिन (अष्टमी) को श्रावण या भाद्रपद में मनाया जाता है
यह एक महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है, खासकर हिंदू धर्म की वैष्णव परंपरा में। भागवत पुराण (जैसे रास लीला या कृष्ण लीला) के अनुसार कृष्ण के जीवन के नृत्य-नाटक की परम्परा, कृष्ण के जन्म के समय मध्यरात्रि में भक्ति गायन, उपवास , रात्रि जागरण , और एक त्योहार अगले दिन जन्माष्टमी समारोह का एक हिस्सा हैं।
कृष्ण का जन्म अराजकता के क्षेत्र में हुआ था। भगवान कृष्ण ने वासुदेव और देवकी के जैविक रूप से द्वापर युग में एक सेलुलर जेल में जन्म लिया। लेकिन वासुदेव को एक तूफानी रात में अपने बच्चे को एक दोस्त को सौंपने के लिए यमुना नदी को पार करना पड़ा ताकि बच्चे को कंस के बुरे हाथों से बचाया जा सके। तो, तकनीकी रूप से, मथुरा के गोकुल क्षेत्र के मैया यशोधा और नंदा भगवान कृष्ण के पालक माता-पिता थे। जन्माष्टमी पर लोगों द्वारा उपवास रखने, कृष्ण प्रेम के भक्ति गीत गाकर और रात में जागरण करके मनाई जाती है। कृष्ण के मध्यरात्रि के जन्म के बाद, शिशु कृष्ण की मूर्तियों को धोया और पहनाया जाता है, फिर एक पालने में रखा जाता है। इसके बाद भक्त भोजन और मिठाई बांटकर अपना उपवास तोड़ते हैं।

English Translation
Born for the welfare of the world, even in a prison, as Lord Hari, Today, Lord Krishna triumphs — the destroyer of all devotees’ sorrows.

जो विश्व के कल्याण के लिए कारागार में जन्मे, वे हरि भगवान।
आज श्रीकृष्ण की जय हो, जो भक्तों के दुखों का नाश करते हैं।।

English Translation

बालं मुकुन्दमासाद्य नन्दनं गोकुलोत्सवम्। यशोदाभ्यां परं वन्दे परमानन्दलक्ष्मिकम्।।
English Translation
I bow to the blissful child Mukunda (Lord Krishna), who is the son of Nanda, and the source of celebration in Gokula (Vrindavan). His divine play with Yashoda is supremely blissful and filled with radiant splendor.

English Translation
I offer my obeisance’s to Lord Krishna, the beloved son of Vasudeva, who killed the great demons Kansa and Canura, who is the source of great joy to Mother Devaki; and who is indeed a world teacher and spiritual master of the universe.
Hindi Translation
मैं वसुदेव पुत्र, देवकी के परमानन्द, कंस और चाणूर जैसे दैत्यों का वध करने वाले, समस्त संसार के गुरू भगवान कृष्ण को वन्दन करता हूँ।
